Low Cost House Design Concept

The first of the 1o laws of creating beautiful, stylish and low cost houses is selecting the right design.
Many American House design seems to be almost premised on creating the most “grand” looking home possible, one of the intentions of many Architects is to create a House that ” looks ” expensive and whilst I will accept that these stereotypes are changing slowly.
One of the most profound actions we can take early in our pursuit of building a low cost house is to select a ” design type ” or style of construction that sets aside this notion of designing to have a “grand look” in favor of more ” functional design ” .
To me this certainly does not mean that we have to abandon beautiful even elegant design in the pursuit of low cost construction rather it means that we should consider alternatives to the “stereotypical” 2 storey dormer gabled American Home.
One of the best resources for low cost house design is researching quality “kit home” builders. Kit Homes ( sometimes called Manufactured Homes ) by definition create Homes intended to be assembled from components.
The house that I am going to be building and documenting on this site has been “inspired” from many hours of looking at literally 100′s of different designs. The first design that I saw that truly inspired me on this project was from this Australian Manufacturer of Kit Homes
